It’s that time of year—school is in session. We get it, school can be stressful. Whether you’re a student, teacher, or parent, we are here to help give you some advice to feel confident about yourself, so you can look and feel your best this year!
Having a routine is one of the very best ways to keep yourself in line and on schedule. Your routine doesn’t have to be extravagant either, just make sure to focus on some of the essentials!
Skin Care:
Making sure to have skin care in your everyday routine is absolutely essential to making sure you feel refreshed and your skin stays rejuvenated and youthful. Stress is one of the leading causes of aging, so by ensuring you’re on top of your skin care is super important. We suggest a gentle cleanser, a hydrating moisturizer, and SPF for just some of the essentials to kickstarting your skin care routine!
Exercise/Fitness:
Having an exercise or fitness routine is super important to helping maintain a healthy body and mind. Whether that be a 20 minute walk every morning while listening to your favorite podcast or a steady workout plan you follow, ensuring you keep a consistent fitness routine is crucial to helping you feel your best, mentally and physically.
Beauty Maintenance:
Keeping yourself maintained is highly beneficial to helping you feel your best. Therefore, ensuring you keep up with regular haircuts, to avoid hair breakage, maintaining your eyebrows by booking waxing or threading appointments, or scheduling a facial to keep your skin healthy and refreshed, on top of your daily skincare, can help ensure you are not only looking uniquely beautiful, but feeling it too!
Sleep:
While sleep is something many people overlook, it is one of the most important things that your body needs to properly function. By developing a solid sleep routine, your awareness and brain function increases tremendously, your mental health improves drastically, and your overall health is better. Therefore, you can set a sleep schedule by giving yourself a 30 minute period before your set bed time to unwind and practice calming activities that don’t involve screens, such as reading, meditating, or journaling. Then, when waking up, give yourself a 30 minute period before your morning starts to practice non-screen activities, such as goals for the day, affirmations, or prayer. By setting a sleep routine, you will feel your best!
Setting a routine is absolutely essential in so many ways to help you gain your confidence as the school year approaches and get it started on the right foot! Stick to those routines, and we guarantee you’re going to be unstoppable!
The start of a school year can be incredibly stressful for everyone. Never feel like you have to go through it alone.
If you’re struggling with a class or an assignment, don’t be afraid to reach out to a teacher or a professor and get some help. They are there to help you do your best and help you truly understand the materials. Whether that be during the class, after school, or during office hours, seeking help will not only help you understand the information, but also help you develop a stronger relationship with your professor or teacher.
Talking with a therapist is so beneficial to your mental health, especially in such a high stress time. It is completely normal to talk with a therapist, as they are there for you always and offer such beneficial advice that helps in all aspects of life. Don’t ever be afraid to reach out to a therapist!
Feeling sad, lonely, or homesick is super common with the start of a school year. Whether you’re a parent or teacher that might miss their kids or families after spending time together before the start of a year or a college student who just moved away to college for the first time and miss home, just know that it is okay to have those feelings and your home is always there for you. If you live far from home, take a trip back home on a weekend to visit your family if you’re away or FaceTime them as much as you can. Hang a picture of your family in your classroom or office to have a little part of those you love to look at each day!
Reaching out for help is one of the best ways to truly find yourself and your confidence! Never be afraid to seek help, because so many resources are out there to help you!
The content you feed your mind plays a huge role in your outlook on yourself and life. This is especially essential during a new school year, as it can be easy to get caught up in all sorts of different materials, that you can neglect the ones that are most important—the ones that impact your mind. Therefore, finding something that lifts you up or encourages you, will help you feel confident about yourself and give you a better overall perception on life.
Some of my absolute favorite books for self love and confidence that I highly recommend include:
• “Everything You’ll Ever Need: You Can Find Within Yourself” by Charlotte Freeman
–This is a poetry book that highlights small little reminders that we all sometimes need, and often come at just the right time. I loved this book as I feel it is a reminder that everything you’ll ever need, you can find within yourself!
• “I Hope This Helps” by Nakeia Homer
–This book is full of beautiful words to remind you who you are and words to help you find out why you’re here. It is full of many inspiring little lessons which can help make you feel more confident and also inspire the major breakthroughs you’ve been waiting for in your own life!
• “The Self Love Experiment: Fifteen Principles for Becoming More Kind, Compassionate, and Accepting of Yourself” by Shannon Kaiser
–This book follows a personal journey of self love, which can be related to the reader’s own life. During my time as a student, I struggled a lot with mental health, so I resorted to reading self-love books to strengthen my mind, and have learned so many tips for self-love and confidence that have helped me in my own personal self-love journey through this book!
Whether you choose to read these books, or find your own favorites, finding books or podcasts you find encouraging or helpful in your own life, can ensure that you’re feeding your mind positivity and helping it grow in self love and confidence. By doing this, you can start off your school year in the best mindset yet!
The way you start out your day sets the tone for how your day will go. Therefore, to get your day started on the right foot is by reminding yourself how special you are and how much you’re going to rock this day! Setting time aside to focus on yourself and be present in the moment is so important to helping you truly love yourself. It takes 21 days to develop a habit, therefore, I want you to challenge yourself to state 3 affirmations every morning, because eventually, it will just become a fact in your mind.
Some of my favorite affirmations to begin my day include:
•I can do anything I set my mind to.
•I love the person I am and the person I am becoming.
•I believe in my work and abilities.
The more you incorporate positive self talk into your life, the more you will begin to feel confident about yourself and your abilities. This is especially essential to the start of a new school year, when it can be easy to doubt your abilities. Remind yourself everyday that you are worthy and valuable!
Life gets busy, trust me, it happens to everyone. Therefore, making time for yourself is necessary so you don’t burn yourself out!
With classes starting, it’s easy to want to load your schedule up, to make the most of your semester. While that is great if you think it is manageable, make sure you don’t stress yourself and overload courses. You want to make sure you have time to focus on yourself.
Remember, it’s okay to take a pause and come back to something if you truly need a mental break. Teachers, take your lunch break to go for a walk, listen to music, and truly enjoy time to yourself during the busy school day. That time is designated to you! Students, if there’s an assignment that is so overwhelming that you are going to pull an all-nighter to complete—don’t! Take that time to pause, breathe, and go to bed. You can either come back to it in a refreshed mindset or ask for help in the morning. Nothing is worth losing time to yourself over. Take designated time to truly focus on yourself and your alone time—you deserve it!
This last one is huge, but so essential. As a retired people pleaser, I used to have the hardest time saying no to plans, as I never wanted to miss a moment or hurt anyone’s feelings. One of the best tips of advice I have for this—IT IS OK TO SAY NO! I lost so many valuable minutes to myself by always saying yes. Learning to balance your time between yourself and others helps show true mental strength, confidence, and overall love for yourself.
Setting time to be with yourself is so important to maintaining confidence and self love. When you love being alone, it shows that you are so mentally strong and truly love who you are and have created such a wonderful person of yourself, that being alone is a great place to be!
The school year is the best time to find new hobbies that you love, or continue your favorites.
Being involved helps to keep your mind active and helps you love yourself and your skills in a whole different way. Whether you’re a student joining an interesting club, a teacher who coaches a sport, or a parent who volunteers at a school function, staying involved with things around you can help you make new friends, nurture current relationships, keep your mind and body active, and boost your happiness. All of these lead to your own personal love and growth.
By keeping busy doing things you love, you find value in yourself and your abilities, which adds to what makes you special and unique! Challenge yourself to get involved this year!
The people you surround yourself with are a big factor in how you view yourself and the world. This is super relevant going into a new year where many new relationships are formed.
One of the best ways you can build true relationships is by keeping those who make you feel good about yourself in your circle. When you are around others who have a positive outlook on life, and see the beauty in you and themself, you begin to view the world in that exact way. Keep those people near and dear to you!
By finding people who make you want to be a better person and challenge you to truly live your very best (and happiest!) life, you will begin to develop a whole different level of self love and self worth.
A new school year means another year to show the world how truly amazing you are! At the end of the day, it all comes down to you. Make yourself somebody you truly love, because that is your key to a truly beautiful life! <3
